On Saturday 6 April we travel to Mid Wales to face Guilsfield in a league match that kicks off at 2.30pm.
Guilsfield is located in Powys, approximately three miles north of Welshpool, and Saturday's game will take place at our opponents home ground Clos Mytton. The postcode for the ground is SY21 9PF.
Several of Guilsfield's recent home games have been moved to Latham Park in Newtown due to the impact of the recent wet weather on Clos Mytton, but the we have been told that Saturday's match is currently due to go ahead at Clos Mytton in Guilsfield. However, a pitch inspection is scheduled for 10am on Saturday morning. We have been told that if the game fails the pitch inspection, it will not be possible to move it to Newtown and that the match will need to be rescheduled .
Although the club we face this weekend was founded in 1957, the history of football in Guilsfield - like football in Bangor - can be traced back to the 1870s. In 1879, the Cambrian News and Meironethshire Standard reported on the founding of a football team in the village.
Returning to the more recent past, we faced Guilsfield earlier this season in the Welsh Blood Cip at Nantporth in early September. On that occasion, goals from Jamie Hyne and Reece Warder gave the Mid Wales team a two goal advantage. Despite a late goal from Mason Blackwell-Jones that created an exciting finish, Guilsfield triumphed.
However, we were on the right end of a 2-1 scoreline in a league match against Guilsfield at Nantporth in December. Andrew Evans had opened the scoring for the hosts before Corrig McGonigle equalised and Craig Whelan headed in a late winner.
We will have another away trip in the league on Friday 12 April when we take on Denbigh Town at 7.30pm. We will conclude our league campaign with a match away to Llanidloes Town at 8pm on Friday 19 April. Please support our team on these upcoming away trips if you can.
