Recently there have been a series of sightings of moustaches in and around Nantporth that have led some people to wonder if they have been temporarily transported back to the 1970s. However, there is a serious message behind several fans, players and officials cultivating comedy facial hair this month.
We're in the eleventh month of the year and that means it's Movember, a month that has become associated with men growing moustaches to raise awareness about men's health issues, including mental health.
As a club, we have on several occasions participated in initiatives aimed at raising awareness about mental health and are delighted to see several people connected with 1876 continuing this tradition. Among those doing so is first team squad member Dylan Williams, who is part of a team of moustache growers at Holyhead Fire Station. His 'tash is reportedly not yet comparable to the impressive whiskers of Fire Captain Steele from Fireman Sam, but he is part of a team that has already raised almost £1000 for Movember. Dylan's fundraising page can be found online here.
One person who isn't currently packing shaving equipement in his own kit bag is our first team kit man Norm. He has been a regular participant in Movember in recent years and is giving it a go again this year to raise more awareness.
Among the Bangor 1876 fans taking part in Movember is Joe Shooman, whose impressive efforts can be seen in the photo that accompanies this article. It was recently rumoured that Joe was asked to move during the Welsh Cup shootout against Flint Town as his moustache was in danger of putting off the penalty takers. Joe's fundraising page can be found here.
