Defeat at Denbigh

The hosts made a lively start to the game and midfielder Nathan Brown shot wide from 25 yards inside the opening minute.

Paul Fleming was next to try his luck but his deflected shot from 25 yards went wide. Defender William Holmes had an effort from a similar distance not long afterwards but it cleared the crossbar.

Just before the quarter hour mark, Corrig McGonigle had a chance after Denbigh goalkeeper Kristian Pierce fumbled a cross but the attacker couldn't get a shot away. Denbigh went straight up the other end and Jason Foulkes looked set to open the scoring after a neat turn but Huw Shaw did well to save the close range shot with his feet.

In the seventeenth minute, the hosts took the lead through Paul Fleming when the attacker found space in the box to turn home a cross from the right wing.

Just after the midway point in the first half, Jason Foulkes evaded several challenges as he broke into the right side of the box but his powerful cross shot went narrowly wide.

Five minutes before the break, Bangor drew level. Les Davies played a precise ball through the middle that allowed Corrig McGonigle to round the goalkeeper and score from a tight angle.

Inside the final minute of the half, the hosts had a further chance when Daniel Clarke broke into the left side of the box but shot over under pressure from Kian Owen.

HALF-TIME: DENBIGH TOWN 1-1 BANGOR 1876

In the opening minutes of the second period, Denbigh were first to threaten but Nathan Brown shot over from outside the box after cutting inside. Moments later Sion Jones broke into the box after a neat team move but his rising effort cleared the crossbar.

The game then entered an end-to-end phase where both sides had chances. McGonigle came close to scoring his second but his curling effort from the edge of the box hit the underside of the bar and rebounded to safety.

Paul Fleming had a shot deflected wide almost immediately afterwards. However it wasn't long before he was back in the heart of the action. Just over ten minutes into the second period, the number ten scored his second of the evening after breaking into the right of the box and chipping the ball over Huw Shaw.

With twenty minutes left, Bangor almost found an equaliser. Denbigh goalkeeper Kristian Pierce miscued a kick-out and the ball broke to Liam Morris just over 40 yards from goal but his shot went narrowly wide. Shortly afterwards, Morris set up McGonigle inside the box but the prolific attacker shot over the bar.

During a spell when Bangor when Bangor were applying increasing pressure, they fell victim to a swift counter attack from the hosts that resulted in Fleming completing his hat-trick with a composed finish.

Denbigh substitute Oliver Hansen had a chance to extend the home side's advantage but his low shot was saved well by the feet of Huw Shaw.
