Disappointing result despite excellent performance

Sunday saw the womens team take on Rhyl in the first league game of 2022, but ultimately was left empty handed despite an excellent performance by the team.

Commenting on the match result, new manager Aron Griffith had this to say :
"Firstly we'd like to thank Rhyl for making the journey down to Plas Francon. It was a good game to watch, end to end at times and competitive in the right way. We can take a lot of positives out of the game despite the 5-3 defeat. I think the game hinged on small margins to be fair and on another day we could have won or at least drawn but it wasn't meant to be. I think Rhyl knew they'd been in a game today and respect to them for coming back from 3-1 down and taking the 3 points in the end.

The girls came out strongly, really wanting the match and we fully deserved the lead with cracking goals from Awel (2) and Lisa but we allowed Rhyl to come back into the game and then switched off again just before half time and conceded. Credit to Rhyl they came out strongly in the second half and we dipped due to lack of concentration, fitness and the injuries particularly to Becca in goal who played on regardless made the difference. Having said all this, I couldn’t fault the girls today after that stellar performance and the improvement from the 1st game we played them. We're looking forward to carrying this momentum onto our next game away to Llanystymdwy next Sunday and focussed on taking 3 points. "

Team captain Dani Barnfield added to this by saying:
"It’s not often that you walk away having lost a game, and be happy(ish) with the result like we are as a team today. Obviously we played for the win and we’re disappointed not to have got anything from the game, but it wasn’t meant to be and it feels that little bit of lucky we needed just wasn’t on our side. After losing the reverse fixture last time with a depleted squad in the way we did, it was great to see our players come together and put in the shift that they did. Unfortunately we did have some minimal lapses in concentration which they capitalised on, but there are plenty of positives to take from the performance including some well taken goals.
We have to remember it’s our first season together with young players in the team, and after a disappointing result before Christmas we should be glad to have pushed an experienced side like Rhyl to the end like we did."
