Deserved 3 points against determined opposition

Sunday saw the womens team get back to league action following a free week against Llangefni Ladies in Plas Ffrancon with a deserved 3-0 home win against a tough and determined Llangefni team with two first half goals from Chelsea Williams and Jordan Roberts and a third for Lexi Crawley midway through the second half.

Preparartions were slightly hampered by a delayed 50min start to kick-off whilst the teams waited for a referee to arrive and both squads had to re focus on warm-ups. With 1876 missing a number of key players such as Becca (GK), Heledd and Ffion Bee (defence), Ffion Roberts and Ceri Lois (attack) through injury and absences there was a re-jigg to the team selection with u19s player Lucy Richardson making her senior debut in goal and new signing 16 year old Mia Roberts in midfield alongside our captain Dani Barnfield. However the home team didn't let it show and produced a composed performace against an improving away team who fought to the end and didn't make it easy on the home side whatsoever.

Commenting on the victory, coach Aron Griffiith said:

" We are really pleased with the teams performance, ball movement and possesion was key today against a tough, physical Llangefni side so game plan went well and we took our chances were it counted.

All in all a really solid performance from our girls front to back and we'll carry this momentum to the next game. We kept our heads throughout, stuck to our game plan, let the ref manage the game and didn't react or get involved. We started quickly which was good given the delay and went two up with a poachers goal from Chelsea after their keeper made a good save, an excellent finish from Jordan from the right and the third was a really great team goal in terms of build-up and breaking lines with lovely finish from Lexi that really killed the game off in our favor.

The team created chances throughout which was pleasing, their keeper made some excellent saves, we had free kicks go just over the bar and got into dangerous areas time and time again, kept their strikers quiet all game so it was well deserved and we managed the game out. "

Adding to this, captain Dani Barnfield had this to say:

"Despite there being several changes to our starting 11 again this weekend and players having to play out of position I think that we put in a solid, convincing performance, and more than deserved the three points. We all however acknowledge where we need to improve, and will look to do this in training and take it into the next game.

Our back line played a composed 90 minutes, and credit has to go to the forwards who took their chances excellently. A special mention also has to go player of the match Mia who played her debut in midfield. No doubt the first of many and a pleasure to have on board for the rest of the season and to Lucy for stepping in for Becca and keeping a clean sheet. "

Next up for the seniors will be another home league game on Sunday 14th November against Northop at Plas Ffrancon, Bethesda with kick-off 2pm.
