Six goals and three points secured against a tough NFA side

Yesterday saw the womens team travel to Rhyl in the opening match of the North Wales Womens league to play against a tough NFA side .

Coach Aron Griffiths who took charge of the team in manager Jonny Batten's absence said:

"I'm obviously pleased with the result. It was a tough competitive game against a very good NFA side who worked us hard throughout. The conditions were hot out on that pitch which wasn't a great surface either. We started really well, kept possession, moved the ball, pressed in groups and created chances and fully deserved going ahead. Yes the intensity dropped off in spells and we were a bit slow to get going again in the second half and at times we just lacked that little bit of composure, patience on the ball and needed better decision making. Having said that we managed to pick it up again so I can't fault the effort that the whole team put in today including the subsitutes who came on and made a difference and not forgetting our stikers who fully deserve the accolades with some excellent finishing.

All in all a lot of positives and obviously things to work on for the next game. We all talked about the importance getting a good start to our season today before the match and we got it so we'll take it and move on."

Commenting after the match Team captain Dani Barnfield said :

"Today was all about going home with 3 points and starting the season as we mean to go on. It’s pleasing that we managed to do so with a convincing score line but NFA deserve full credit for the way they played and stayed in the game under the circumstances. Having said that we were unfortunate to be without a number of key players today. Credit to the team it’s great to see how those who were there had to adapt to play in unfamiliar positions, and stepped up to get the result. Although we didn’t always keep our shape and our intensity definitely dropped at times, we did improve in the final quarter and deserved the goals which were taken brilliantly by the attackers. Now we look forward to playing at home against Llanystumdwy next Sunday."
