First season closes on a high with excellent away performance

After 18 matches, our first season finally came to an end with a dominant away win which secured us a top 3 league finish.

With six different scores, the team managed to maintain their recent unbeaten run of games and close out our inaugural season by taking 13 points out of 15 on the road and made sure we ended the season on a high.

Reflecting on the match, manager Aron Griffith commented:

"Firstly would like to thank Llan for the match and their warm welcome and reception after the game.

I couldn’t fault the girls at all. The way we moved the ball and worked for each other was brilliant. We'd challenged them to end our season on a high and they did just that.

Today, we had a number of first team regulars missing which gave some of our youth players (u16s and u19s) and others an opportunity. They didn't let us down and made an impact on the game. The fact that the average age of our squad today was 19 bodes well for the future of this club.

We spoke to the team before the match and told them to go out and enjoy themselves, relax into it and just do the things we see them do in training every week. I asked for performance and I think we got one. That early goal helped to settle us down but we had a couple of earlier chances that went narrowly wide so it was a matter of time.

For that to be our final game performance, I couldn’t have asked for a better and fairer result today for us.

Llan made a game of it until the end and worked us hard but we dominated most of play apart from a period in that second half. I felt we went a bit flat for a while and our energy levels dipped. This allowed Llan back into the game and they scored. Having said that it was really hot out there today so its understandable, so we changed it around, made some subs and got that intensity back again.

The scoreline could have looked a bit different if we had taken all our chances but credit to Llan they defended brilliantly at times, frustrated us and their keeper made some outstanding saves as well. They were always dangerous on the break as they tried to get behind us on the counter but I thought we defended well as a unit today and thankfully managed to keep their strikers relatively quiet all game.

Some of our football today was really good and lovely to watch. At times we kept possession well, played with confidence and composure, tried to move the ball quickly, played to feet when we could and had pace in our attacks. The goals we scored from open play came from excellent inter-play and teamwork and composed finishes. So all in all a good day for us and a great end to our season.

I'm proud of this team and ending the season with 40 points and a top 3 finish in our first season since being formed is a massive achievement for the club. We're looking forward to the next one already. Also a special thanks to our supporters who came down to watch us as they have done all season. "
