Deserved away win for Seniors against a tough Northop side

The seniors trip to Shotton yesterday to take on Northop proved to be fruitful as they came away with all 3 points thanks to second half goals from Awel and Jordan. Looking to end the season on a high and maintain performance levels we've seen recently, the team did as they were asked.

A pleased Lois Regan, Assistant Manager who took charge of the team commented:

"Firstly we would like to thank Northop for the brilliant game and wish them well for the remainder of the season.

We knew going into this match it would be tough and it was. Northop have had some great results recently so there is no doubt they're a good side and they showed it today.

As a team we wanted to carry on the performance levels we showed last week and play our football and I think we definitely did that. Worked strong as a team and played some brilliant football in our units. It's fair to say we made it harder for ourselves as we created plenty of chances but couldn't quite get on the end of them.

At half time we had a long chat about us trying to stop panicking in that final third. We needed to stop forcing the ball forward, be a little more patient and composed and to carry on playing the football we were doing going into that final third.

Fair play to Northop it took us ' till the 57th minutes to score. It was a well worked set piece corner with Lisa hitting the cross bar but great for us that Awel reacted to get on the bounce-back to finish and break the deadlock.

I think the goal gave us more confidence as we continued to attack and create chances. A lovely deep long ball pass from Heledd to Jordan to run onto and finish got us that second goal.

Fair play to Northop they fought back well and got their goal with a cracking finish but we stuck together, showed resilience to see the game out and secured a well deserved win.

All in all, I'm really pleased with our performance today. It was hot out there and both teams put in a shift and played good football.

Our girls should be proud of themselves, they gave all they could on that pitch and got the result they deserved. Every week they listen, take on board what we need to work on and take it into our games. We now need to build again on this performance and be ready for our next game, which wil be another tough one away to Amlwch."

Captain Heledd Evans added:

"I’m proud of the girls performance today and yet again with our U19’s players for showing why they deserve their spot in the team.

We started well, pushing on Northop’s defence and our formation made sure that we kept the intensity high in attack. We had plenty of chances in that first half but we were unfortunate not to put them away and get on the scoresheet.

In the second half we continued the intensity and stuck to our game plan which led Awel, who reacted well in the box to score our first goal. This was soon followed by Jordan scoring her 13th league goal of the season from a long ball over the top of the Northop defence.

We’re now 3rd in the league with two games to go, 8 points ahead of Amlwch (who have 2 games in hand) where we’ll be going on 1st of May hoping to continue this winning run until the end of the season and finish as high up the table as we can."
