Manager pleased with positive reaction and performance

The trip down the A55 ended in sucess for the seniors as they did exactly what the manager asked of them and came away with a deserved victory against a battling Holywell side who never made it easy for us.

Commenting on the win , manager Aron Griffith had this to say :

"Firstly we'd like to thank Holywell for the superb game today and the brilliant hospitality after the match and wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.

After last week's result, we wanted to start the match strongly and we did just that. Today I wanted it to be about us. We knew it would be a tough match and it was. Even though results haven't been going their way to date, they're a strong side with good players so we had to be ready for it.

We had well timed runs into the final third and played through-balls to break their defensive lines and mixed that up with switches and lofted balls over into space for our front 3 to run on to, trying to turn their defence. We got our just rewards although it took us about 20 mins we had confidence in our game plan.

Fair play to Holywell they made it a really competitive game and never stopped going, worked hard to the very end so we knew we had to match them and more. To be fair to them, they did have spells in that game where they caused us a few problems, we had to defend and they scored an absolute belter from outside the box which Becca had absolutely no chance with. I think they had some luck with that penalty decision but so did we beforehand so maybe the ref was trying to make amends !

I think when they had those spells we just got sucked into their game, and it became scrappy particularly during that 10 mins before the break and they came back into it and put us under a bit of pressure.

We had a long chat about this at half time, said to them just to calm down, don't panic, be patient, let's regain our composure and start playing our football again. By doing this we kept that ball moving and maintained a lot of possession and those chances would come again and they did. I think we hit the bar a couple of times today, had one cleared off the line and let's not talk too much about some of the off-side decisons that went against us either.

All in all, I'm just really pleased with that whole team performance today and more so the positive reaction from the team after last week. Obviously there are things to work on from that game and we'll be doing just that.

Our goals today were well worked team goals like we've practicing on the training ground. It was great to see the youth girls coming through aswell. We had two 16 year olds in midfield and 17, 18 year olds up front today. Everyone gave their all and enjoyed it and were encouraged, mentored and supported brilliantly throughout by all the players in the team which was so pleasing for us coaches to see.

Today everyone played their part and pushed themselves and that's what got us the win which we deserved. We finished the game with 10 players on the pitch so just want to wish George a speedy recovery from what looked like a foot injury. "

Ffion Bee who captained the side today added:

"The game was quite physical at times with Holywell putting up a fight from the start. However, I think we learned from last week's mistakes and played some great football and supported each other going forward and defending.

It was hot out there today, so the weather took a toll on our fitness by the end but we stuck in there. Holywell kept attacking 'till the very end from both sides but we showed great resilience and scored one or two on the break. Overall I’m proud of our performance and hope we can use it and improve further for our next game which will be an important game for us, a cup match against NFA."
