On Saturday 2 September at 2.30pm, we welcome Guilsfield to Nantporth for a home game in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup in what will be our first ever game in this competition.
Our opponents Guilsfield are from Powys, approximately three miles north of Welshpool, and play their home games at Clos Mytton. Although they were founded in 1957, the history of football in Guilsfield - like football in Bangor - can be traced back to the 1870s. In 1879, the Cambrian News and Meironethshire Standard reported on the founding of a football team in the village.
During August, Guilsfield have achieved some impressive results. They began the month with a win away to Cymru Premier team Newtown on penalties after a 1-1 draw. They also beat Porthmadog at the Traeth in a league game where Iwan Matthews scored the winner. They also lost 1-0 at home to Buckley Town and last weekend drew 1-1 at home to Llanidloes Town after Jamie Hyne cancelled out an early goal by the visitors.
As Saturday's match is a league cup tie, season tickets will be valid. For those paying on the gate, the prices will be £6 for adults and £3 for senior citizens and concessions. Please come along to Nantporth for what has the makings of an exciting encounter.
