Four goals from Sion Parry in fourteenth consecutive league victory

At a wet and windy Treborth, Bangor 1876 achieved their fourteenth consecutive win in the Gwynedd League and maintained their one hundred percent record in the competition.

In challenging conditions, 1876 were quickly on the attack against opponents Ogwen Tigers. Dylan Summers-Jones twice hit the post with headers before the opening goal finally arrived in the sixteenth minute. Sion Parry netted from close range in his first start, scoring after Shane Owen had saved another header from Summers-Jones.

Five minutes later, Parry doubled 1876’s advantage with a well struck shot after finding space on the right side of the penalty area. The scoreline could have been ever more flattering if a Luke Steele shot from over twenty yards had dropped over the line after it struck the crossbar.

A third goal for 1876 did arrive in the thirty-sixth minute after a well-placed downward header from Benn Lundstram found the back of the net after a cross from the right wing by Jamie Petrie.

There were some rumours that Marti Pellow was spotted in the clubhouse at half-time. While we can’t confirm this, it certainly remained wet, wet, wet in the second half. Indeed several spectators mentioned that they couldn’t feel anything in their fingertips, and couldn’t feel anything in their toes.

1876’s young side, of whom only three were alive when Wet Wet Wet were at number one in the charts with Love is All Around, continued where they had left off in the second period. A three goal half-time advantage swiftly became a four goal lead after Sion Parry completed his hat-trick with a calm finish two minutes into the second half. Three minutes later, Parry added his fifth and 1876’s fifth with a shot from the edge of the area. A further two minutes after this, Dylan Summers-Jones made the score 6-0 after breaking into the left side of the penalty area and beating the visiting goalkeeper with a left-footed shot.

Second half substitute Dafydd Thomas looked to have headed in a seventh for 1876 but his goal was disallowed due to offside. However, Dylan Summers-Jones ensured that the final score was a 7-0 victory for 1876 after he scored from close range six minutes before the full-time whistle.

Next up for Bangor 1876 is a trip to Parc Meurig to face Bethesda Athletic on Satuday 18 January (2pm kick-off) before a match away to Menai Bridge Tigers in the Bob Owen Shield the following Saturday (1.30pm kick-off).
