4-0 victory and first goal for Sion Parry

Bangor 1876 now enjoy an eight point lead at the top of the Gwynedd League following last night’s 4-0 win against a resolute Waunfawr side at Treborth.

In the seventh minute, in-form attacker Dylan Summers-Jones came close to opening the scoring with a header that went narrowly over the bar. However, 1876 were soon in front. After a floated cross from Shaun Lock hit the crossbar, Cian Williams scored from close range as Waunfawr goalkeeper Rhys Jones failed to claim the loose ball.

Les Davies doubled 1876’s lead in the twenty-fifth minute with a neat glancing header following a cross from Matt Lock on the right wing. Waunfawr came close to reducing the deficit, but one of their attackers managed to scoop the ball over the crossbar when he was clean through on goal. In the final minute of the half, the score became 3-0 after Dylan Summers-Jones controlled the ball with his back to goal before turning and firing in a powerful shot from eight yards out.

In the second period, Bangor 1876 initially found the well-organised visitors from Waunfawr hard to break down. However, 1876 came close to adding to their tally on several occasions midway through the second half. Firstly, a Matt Lock cross hit the bar and shortly afterwards Dylan Summers-Jones saw his powerful shot from the right side of the penalty area turned away for a corner by Rhys Jones. The Waunfawr keeper was at full stretch again only minutes later to parry a powerful shot by Dylan Williams from just outside the penalty area.

As full-time approached, Bangor 1876 finally scored a fourth goal through new signing Sion Parry. Parry broke through the middle and had his initial shot saved by Rhys Jones, but managed to calm pass the rebound into the net before the Waunfawr goalkeeper could get back into position.

Next up for 1876 is a home game against Ogwen Tigers at Treborth on Saturday 11 January, 2.45pm kick-off
