Late equaliser denies 1876

Late equaliser denies 1876

Matt Johnson4 Jan - 16:07

Injury time penalty drama at Llay

Early on it was the hosts who threatened first. Jon Collo broke into the left side of the penalty area but couldn't find the target with a shot across goal.

At the other end, Liam Morris had a chance when he broke into the Llay area but was denied by a last-ditch tackle by Max Peate.

Not long after the quarter hour mark, Carl Jones had to make a sharp save the deny Dylan Evans after the ball was cut back to him by Collo.

Just before the midway point of the first half, Bangor almost opened the scoring. Mason Blackwell-Jones jinked past several opponents on the way into the box. He took the ball round home goalkeeper Michael Platt but Owen Payne got back to block his goalbound shot just in time.

With five minutes of the first half remaining, Bangor came within inches of taking the lead. Joe Sullivan fired in a powerful shot from 30 yards that struck the crossbar and went out of play.

HALF-TIME: LLAY WELFARE 0-0 BANGOR 1876

In a lively start to the second half, there were chances at both ends. Liam Morris saw a shot deflected out wide, and the hosts headed over from a corner.

After 63 minutes the deadlock was broken. James Barry played the ball in from the left and Mason Blackwell-Jones sidefooted the ball in from ten yards out.

Bangor continued to press and came close to extending their lead when a shot from Joe Sullivan looped just over the bar following a quick break.

With just over ten minutes remaining, James Barry showed pace and skill to break forward and beat several opponents. He broke into the box and saw his powerful low shot repelled by home goalkeeper Platt.

Bangor then broke down the right soon afterwards and a neat passing move ended with Cai Powell-Roberts sidefooting the ball just wide of the target.

The chances continued to arrive, Corrig McGonigle saw an acrobatic effort saved before Mason Blackwell-Jones saw a backheeled attempt deflected wide. Platt then tipped over a long shot from Joe Sullivan.

Deep into injury time, the hosts exerted some pressure following a long throw. However, it culminated with Carl Jones saving a shot from the edge of the box.

However, there was to be late drama as the hosts won a penalty six minutes into injury time. Jon Collo stepped up to convert the spot kick. The hosts forced a chance a minute later but Carl Jones pulled off a save from point-blank range to keep the score level.
