Bangor win thriller at Prestatyn

In a lively start to the match, Bangor took the lead inside the first four minutes after winning a corner. Corrig McGonigle swung the ball into box and Iolo Hughes headed against the bar. The ball broke back to McGonigle and his cross was headed in by Corey Jones.

Two minutes later, Bangor doubled their advantage. Corrig McGonigle broke into the left side of the box and was tripped by Tom Kemp. McGonigle stepped up and found the net with a powerful low shot into the bottom right corner.

Still inside the first ten minutes, Prestatyn got themselves back into contention after taking advantage of some hesitation in the Bangor defence. The ball was worked into the middle of the box where Alec Williams scored with a powerful shot.

Bangor came close to restoring their two goal advantage following a corner kick from the left. Corrig McGonigle’s inswinger was headed goalwards by Tom Clarke but Prestatyn cleared.

As half-time approached, the game's rhythm was disrupted by several stoppages due to injury. After one of these stoppages, Luke Wiltshire strode forward and struck a shot from the edge of the area which was saved by Carl Jones.

Shortly afterwards, Wiltshire had a shot from a similar distance that found the net and brought the hosts level.

Deep into first half injury time, the hosts had a chance to take the lead after a free-kick was played into the box from near halfway. It reached Connor Whelan but his header was comfortably saved by Carl Jones.

HALF-TIME: PRESTATYN TOWN 2-2 BANGOR 1876

Three minutes into the second period, Prestatyn took the lead. A pass through the middle allowed Tyler Joyce to break into the box. He managed to beat his marker, round Carl Jones and score with a composed finish.

After 54 minutes, Bangor drew level. Joe Culshaw swung a free kick into the box from the right and Dale Davies found the net with a powerful header.

Midway through the second half, Bangor came within inches of regaining the lead. Corrig McGonigle curled a free-kick round the defensive wall from 25 yards out but just over the bar.

In the 73rd minute, Bangor regained the lead. A ball forward by Liam Morris reached Mason Blackwell-Jones powerful shot from just outside the box beat Prestatyn goalkeeper Joe Lawlor.

As the game entered the final quarter hour, Bangor had another chance from a set-piece. Corrig McGonigle curled another free-kick round the defensive wall but inches wide of the post.

With eight minutes of the ninety left, the hosts were reduced to ten minute. Tom Kemp was sent off after picking off a second yellow card for a late tackle on Mason Blackwell-Jones.

Inside injury time, Bangor had a chance to extend their lead. Corrig McGonigle won the ball back on halfway and played a neat pass through to the onrushing Liam Morris. The second half substitute dribbled into the box but shot into the side-netting.

Prestatyn continued to battle away in search of an equaliser and had a half chance from the edge of the box but Conor Davies shot wide. Bangor managed to see out the remainder of injury time to secure the win.
