A dramatic late comeback saw Bangor 1876 claim back-to-back league wins against Buckley Town on a cold afternoon at the Deeside Stadium in Connah's Quay. The game got off to a relatively quiet start as both sides cancelled each other out. Buckley's Connor Littler was the first player to have an effort on target in the tenth minute but his header following a counter attack was comfortably saved by Carl Jones.
Just before the quarter hour mark, it was Littler who gave Buckley the lead. Carl Jones came out to try to clear a long ball forward but the Buckley number nine got to it first to lob the keeper and open the scoring.
The hosts then doubled their lead midway through the opening period. Adam Smith beat his man on the left, got to the byeline and cut the ball back to enable Littler to sidefoot in his second goal of the afternoon.
Ten minutes before the interval, Corrig McGonigle tried to reduce the deficit with a free-kick from 30 yards but his attempt was comfortably saved by Ryan Goldston.
Five minutes later, Bangor had another chance when the ball reached Liam Morris on the left side of the penalty area but he couldn't direct his shot on target.
In the final minute of the half, Carl Jones had to show sharp reflexes to tip over a long range shot from Connor Littler as the Buckley attacker came close to completing a first half hat-trick. There were no further chances before the break so Buckley returned to the changing rooms with a two goal advantage.
HALF-TIME: BUCKLEY TOWN 2-0 BANGOR 1876
After the break, Bangor had more possession but initially struggled to create chances. Buckley's Adam Smith fired in a shot from 20 yards on the hour mark but Carl Jones did well to push it away. At the other end, half-time substitute Mason Blackwell-Jones sent in a curling shot that Goldston did well to save.
With just over ten minutes to go, another Bangor substitute gave them a glimmer of hope. Sam Jones controlled the ball well on the edge of the box before scoring with a hooked left foot shot.
Five minutes later, Bangor drew level. Mason Blackwell-Jones swung the ball into the box and Corrig McGonigle scored with a neatly placed header. In the final minute of the ninety, Bangor turned the game on its head. A long ball forward from Carl Jones reached Sam Jones who beat Goldston with a powerful low shot.
In the sixth minute of injury time, the hosts had a chance following a corner. The ball broke to Callum Humphries on the edge of the box but his shot went just over the bar. There was one final chance as Bangor had to clear the ball off the line in a goalmouth scramble following a long throw. Seconds later the final whistle went as Bangor secured a dramatic victory.
