Prestatyn take the points at Nantporth

Bangor 1876 fell to their first home league defeat of the season against Prestatyn Town.

There was drama inside the opening thirty second when Carl Jones was adjudged to have fouled Prestatyn's Karl Clair as he broke into the box. Clair stepped up to calmly convert the penalty.

Prestatyn had a glorious chance to double their advantage after just over a quarter of an hour when Clair broke the offisde trap and went clean through on goal. However, Carl Jones came out quickly and saved with his feet.

Ten minutes later, Bangor came close to levelling the score. Just after a penalty appeal was turned down, Dan Cox curled the ball narrowly over the crossbar from just outside the box. Within a minute, Liam Morris was unlucky to see his shot on the turn hit the outside of the post and rebound to safety.

Inside the final fifteen minutes of the opening period, Liam Morris again went close when he got on the end of a cross from Sam Jones. However, his flicked effort at the near post went narrowly wide.

Against the run of play, Prestatyn doubled their advantage eight minutes before the break. Karl Clair broke into the right side of the box and it initially looked like his attempt had been blocked but the ball broke to Daniel Atkins who found the net from seven yards out.

HALF-TIME: BANGOR 1876 0-3 PRESTATYN TOWN

Bangor sought to make a positive start to the second half and forced two early corners. Corey Jones got in a powerful header at the back post following one of the flag kicks but his attempt was parried by Prestatyn goalkeeper Michael Jones.

In 56 minutes, Prestatyn added a third goal with their first attack of the second period. Following a Bangor corner, Daniel Atkins broke from inside his own half and beat several defenders before scoring with s low shot from the right side of the penalty area.

Within a few minutes, Bangor had a chance to reduce the deficit when Liam Morris got on the end of a knockdown from substitute Les Davies within the box. Unfortunately he couldn't keep his shot down and the ball went out for a goal kick. Shortly afterwards, Craig Whelan side-footed the ball over after it was cut back by Dan Cox.

As the midway point of the second period approached, Prestatyn came close to extending their advantage from a free-kick. Karl Clair curled a shot over the well from twenty yards but his shot went inches wide of the near post.

With twenty minutes left, Prestatyn did add a fourth. A cross was swung in from the right and beat Carl Jones after taking a deflection. Within a few minutes, Craig Whelan came close to reducing the arrears but his shot from just outside the box hit the top of the crossbar.

With eight minutes left, Bangor got on the scoresheet. A neat pass from Harry Galeotti found Corrig McGonigle inside the box and he calmly side-footed the ball past Jones.

Bangor continued to press in the closing stages but were unable to add any further goals.
