Jones and Petrie find the net

In the early stages of the first half, Bangor were the first to press. Inside the first two minutes, Jamie Petrie broke into the right side of the penalty area but his powerful shot was tipped over the bar by Aaron Jones

With just under four minutes on the clock, Bangor took the lead. Sam Jones who controlled the ball on the run before beating Aaron Jones with a low shot from just inside the box.

At the other end, Denbigh had a chance to level but Craig Pritchard headed over the bar following a quick break. Still inside the opening quarter hour, Nathan Brown tried to chip the ball over Carl Jones from about thirty yards out his

Within a couple of minutes it was Bangor's turn to threaten again as Corrig McGonigle's ball across the face of goal from the right just eluded the onrushing Sam Jones.

There was then a stoppage due to injury as Morgan Thomas-Sadler had to be stretched off after sustaining what looked like a painful injury. We wish him a speedy recovery.

After the game went into something of a lull, the next chance fell to Bangor. Following some neat lead-up play, Craig Whelan side-footed the ball narrowly over the bar from the edge of the box.

After thirty-three minutes, Bangor had another chance when Sam Jones broke down the right. He dribbled along the byeline before his pass across the goalmouth was turned in from close range by Jamie Petrie.

A few minutes later, Carl Jones had to show sharp reactions to tip over a cross from Sion Jones that looked like it was dipping under the bar. Five minutes before the interval, Nathan Brown fashioned a chance after cutting in from the right. However his low shot was saved comfortably by Carl Jones.

With two minutes of the first half remaining, Bangor came close to adding a third. Following a corner, Corrig McGonigle crossed the ball back into the box from the left and a header by Tom Clarke was cleared off the line.

In first half injury time, Bangor again came close. After a neat pass from Sam Jones, a shot by Corrit McGonigle from the right side of the penalty area struck the face of the bar and rebounded to safety.

In the sixth minute of first half injury time, it looked like a third goal had arrived when Tom Clarke headed in Joe Culshaw's free-kick but he was flagged offside.

With the final action of the half Ryan Kershaw fired in a free-kick from 30 yards but his shot was blocked and Bangor returned to the dressing rooms with a two goal lead.

HALF-TIME: BANGOR 1876 2-0 DENBIGH TOWN

Inside the opening minute of the second half, Denbigh came close to having the deficit. After Ben Lockley crossed the ball in from the right, Carl Jones saved well with his feet to keep out a powerful low shot from Nathan Brown.

In the 52nd Denbigh did manage to find the net when Craig Pritchard curled a fine shot over Carl Jones and into the net from 20 yards.

Shortly before the midway point of the second half, Bangor came close to restoring their two goal advantage. Corrig McGonigle played the ball on from the left and Sam Jones's flicked shot went narrowly wide.

With twenty minutes left Joe Sullivan came close to scoring his first goal for Bangor after cutting on form the right but Aaron Jones did well to tip his shot from 25 yards over the bar.

As the game entered the final quarter hour, Ryan Kershaw again tried his luck with a free-kick from 30 yards but his shot went over the bar. Shortly afterwards, Thomas Weir shot from outside the box but Carl Jones saved his attempt.

With five minutes left, Iolo Hughes won the ball in midfield before embarking on a rampaging run down the right. It took a last ditch challenge to prevent Corrig McGonigle getting on the end of his cross as a Denbigh defender diverted the ball narrowly wide of his own post.

Inside the last two minutes, substitute Liam Morris was next to threaten for Bangor as his low 25 yard effort forced Aaron Jones into a fine save as he turned the ball round the post for a corner. Morris again went close during injury time as Bangor withstood some late pressure to secure a hard-earned victory.
