Bangor 1876 achieved a satisfying away win against Llandudno although were made to work hard for the victory following a second half comeback by the hosts.
Bangor made a lively start and Jamie Petrie was the first to have an effort at goal inside the first five minutes but his effort from the left side of the area was blocked by Joseph Angus.
At the other end, Carl Jones did well to claim a loose ball in the box as Alex Boss looked to pounce.
Just before the twenty minute mark, Bangor looked set to break the deadlock after Sam Jones diverted a shot by Petrie but Angus pulled off an excellent save and the game remained goalless. Shortly afterwards, Craig Whelan headed a cross from Corrig McGonigle just wide.
After 33 minutes, the opening goal finally arrived. Corrig McGonigle swung in a cross from the left and Dan Cox rose well to head in his first goal for Bangor 1876.
With a minute of the opening period left, Bangor doubled their advantage. After Corrig McGonigle pressed a Llandudno defender as the hosts sought to play out from the back, the ball broke to Craig Whelan. After controlling the ball just inside the box he beat the goalkeeper with a well-placed low shot.
In first half injury time, McGonigle had a chance to get on that scoresheet after breaking into the right side of the box but once again Angus saved well.
HALF-TIME: LLANDUDNO 0-2 BANGOR 1876
Five minutes into the second half it was Llandudno who threatened first. Ethan Roberts broke into the left side of the box by his ball across the face of goal was cleared.
Llandudno continued to press and in the 52nd minute Harvey Bennett broke through the middle and side-footed the ball past Carl Jones to reduce the deficit.
Ten minutes later, Llandudno were level. Danny Holland received a pass from Alex Boss in the centre of the field and took a touch before unleashing a low shot into the corner from 25 yards.
Twenty minutes into the second half, Bangor had a chance to restore their lead. Sam Jones broke into the right of the box and was pushed over by a home defender. Joseph Angus got his hands to Corrig McGonigle's penalty but couldn't keep it out.
With just over fifteen minutes left, Sam Jones had a chance for Bangor after breaking into the left side of the box. However, his shot from a tight angle was saved by Angus.
With eleven minutes left, Sam Jones was involved again. He turned his marker on the left and played in an inviting cross that was headed in by Corrig McGonigle for his second.
In the remaining minutes, Bangor sought to extend their lead and Llandudno kept searching of a goal to set up a grandstand finish. But there were no further goals as Bangor secured a valuable away victory.
