Late winner beats Hawarden

Early on, it was Bangor 1876 who pressed for an opener. Corrig McGonigle came close to adding to his impressive goals tally from a free-kick inside the opening quarter hour but his effort was well saved by visiting goalkeeper Joseph O'Connor.

McGonigle managed to put the ball in the net a few minutes later following a knockdown by Liam Morris but he was flagged offside.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead after 20 minutes. A quick counter attack enabled Scott Davies to get behind the defence and he calmly beat Carl Jones with a low shot after he received a well paced pass from Ellis Jones.

Five minutes after falling behind, 1876 came close.to equalising when Liam Morris swung in a cross from the left. It was met on the run by Jamie Petrie but his effort struck the outside of the post and went wide.

Hawarden came close to doubling their advantage just after half hour mark after they broke down the right wing. The ball was cut back to Ellis Jones, whose shot was parried by Carl Jones.

Just as it looked like Bangor were set to go in at the break a goal behind, they equalised. Liam Morris showed some pace on the left and fired in a low cross that was turned in at the back post by Corrig McGonigle.

HALF-TIME: BANGOR 1876 1-1 HAWARDEN RANGERS

Within three minutes of the re-start, Bangor took the lead. Jamie Petrie showed some neat footwork on the right side of the box and fired a low ball across the face of goal. It was turned in from close range at the back post by Liam Morris.

Shortly before the hour mark, the visitors equalised from the penalty spot after a Bangor defender was adjudged to have handled the ball when attempting to clear the ball. James Ratcliffe converted the penalty with a powerful low shot.

Bangor sought to regain their lead and came close inside the final ten minutes when Shaun Lock laid the ball off to Sion Edwards, but his shot was blocked.

With seven minutes left, a goal finally arrived. A long throw by Shaun Lock from the right was flicked on by Les Davies and headed in by Tom Clarke at the back post.

Deep into injury time, Corrig McGonigle had a chance to extend the lead when he was played through the middle by Sion Edwards. However his low shot was saved well by Joseph O'Connor with his feet. It was to be the last chance of the game as Bangor secured a hard-fought victory.
