On a sunny afternoon at Treborth, Bangor secured an important and hard-earned win against a resolute Llandudno Albion side.
Bangor 1876 were soon on the attack, forcing a corner inside the first minute. Although nothing came from the set piece they soon found themselves in the opposition half again and Sion Edwards fired a long range shot just over the bar.
With the quarter hour mark approaching, Liam Morris was found well by a long pass from Sion Edwards and broke into the Llandudno Albion penalty area. He beat one defender but his shot was blocked by another member of the Albion rearguard.
In the eighteenth minute, Bangor took the lead. Liam Morris broke down the left and played the ball across the goal. Midfielder Dylan Williams was on hand to turn the ball in from close range.
Llandudno Albion also had their opportunities to break forward and Adam Hold shot over from just outside the box after a swift counter attack.
HALF-TIME: LLANDUDNO ALBION 0-1 BANGOR 1876
Bangor 1876 pressed in the early minutes of the second half and Tom Clarke had a chance after breaking into the right side of the box but sent his shot over the bar.
Moments later a neat pass from Joe Culshaw found Corrig McGonigle inside the box but his attempt was saved by Albion goalkeeper Ashley Lavender.
At the other end, Llandudno Albion's 8 tried his luck from 20 yards but his shot flew over the bar. Almost immediately, 1876 went to the other end where a cross from Jamie Petrie rebounded off Corrig McGonigle and into the arms of Ashley Lavender.
Petrie was back in the thick of the action in the next move and it took a sharp save from Lavender to repel his powerful shot. Corrig McGonigle had a chance almost immediately but Lavender saved well at his feet.
Depsite the succession of Bangor chances, Albion almost equalised twenty minutes into the second period. Lee Stokes went clean through on goal and Carl Jones pulled off an excellent save to preserve 1876's lead.
The chance for Albion spurred 1876 into action and a shot on the run by Jamie Petrie was deflected wide for a corner. Tom Clarke headed over at the box post after the ball was swung in by Dylan Williams.
Inside the last twenty minutes, Bangor had a scare after the ball was lobbed over Carl Jones after he punched away a long throw-in. However, Kian Owen got back just in time to clear the ball off the line.
With just over fifteen minutes left, Bangor 1876 broke upfield and Corrig McGonigle cut the ball back to the edge of the area. It was met well by Liam Morris who scored with a powerful low shot from the edge of the area.
Albion continued to press and Stokes fired a shot over the bar after breaking into the left side of the penalty area. With just over ten minutes left, Jordan Kane was inches away from reducing the deficit but his curled free-kick went just wide of the post.
Some good link-up play between Liam Morris and Shaun Lock created a chance for the Anglesey attacker to score his second but Morris' effort went just over the bar.
In the closing stages, 1876 forced several corners but neither Tom Clarke nor Corrig McGonigle managed to direct their headers on target.
