Bangor 1876's focus turns to the JD Welsh Cup on Saturday with CPD Penrhyndeudraeth the visitors to Treborth in the Second Qualifying Round of the competition (2:30pm Kick Off).
The Welsh Alliance Football League Division One club will doubtless provide a stern test to the capabilities of Mel Jones' unbeaten side. Last season, Penrhyndeudraeth exited at the same stage of the competition in a 1-4 home defeat to Coedpoeth United of the Welsh National League.
Penrhyndeudraeth currently sit in twelfth place in the Welsh Alliance Football League Division One table with a record of two wins, one draw and five losses. After an unsteady start to the season, the Maes Y Parc-based club have won their two most recent outings - a 4-2 win over Dolgellau in the FAW Trophy and a comprehensive 7-2 verdict over Llandyrnog United in the League last weekend. The club's only other victory this term came in a 3-1 win on the road at Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs on 20 August.
In the previous round of the JD Welsh Cup, Bangor 1876 disposed of Vale of Clwyd & Conwy Football League side Llandudno Athletic by a 4-1 scoreline in front of a 300-strong crowd at Treborth. The goals on that occasion being provided by Jamie Petrie, Cameron Barry, Cian Williams and Dylan Summers-Jones.
Last Saturday, leading scorer Jamie Petrie added another double to his season's tally in a tight 4-2 affair at Talysarn Celts in the Gwynedd Football League to stretch Bangor's 100% record to eight consecutive matches in all competition.
Manager Mel Jones is expected to have a near full-strength squad available for Saturday's cup tie although fitness checks will be made on Dylan Williams and Dion Jones, who both left the action early last weekend through injury. One definite absentee will be defender Dion Williams who has been released to join Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs with immediate effect.
