Jamie Petrie, Cameron Barry, Cian Williams & Dylan Summers-Jones on target as Bangor 1876 beat Llandudno Athletic to ensure progress in JD Welsh Cup

Bangor 1876 ensured progress through to the JD Welsh Cup Second Qualifying Round draw with a 4-1 win over Vale of Conwy & Clwyd opponents Llandudno Athletic at Treborth on Saturday despite falling behind to an early goal.

Manager Mel Jones made two changes to his side following Monday's 5-0 win at Llangoed. Dion Jones returned to the starting line-up in place of the unavailable Luke Steele, with Dylan Summers-Jones replacing Benn Lundstram.

The home side started brightest with Summers-Jones sending an early effort into the arms of Athletic 'keeper Daniel Adams on 6 minutes. Adams was again in the thick of the action two minutes later as he palmed away Jos Lloyd's dangerous cross to deny Les Davies.

Llandudno responded on 9 minutes with Lee Stokes' free kick delivery headed over the home crossbar, but the warning wasn't heeded as Stokes opened the scoring after 11 minutes with a curled effort into the left hand corner of the net beyond home 'keeper Leon Jones.

The goal stirred the home side into action and Les Davies' flicked ball to Dylan Williams was intercepted by Adams in the Athletic goal in the 14th minute. Summer-Jones saw his goalbound effort blocked before Les Davies struck off target with the follow up after 22 minutes.

The pressure began to mount and midfielder Cameron Barry was unlucky to see his shot from the edge of the area strike the left hand upright with Adams again on hand to save Jamie Petrie's shot from the rebound. Just a minute later and Adams denied Petrie once more as he tipped over at the expense of a corner.

The equaliser duly arrived on the half hour mark as Llandudno's Matthew McElroy handled inside the penalty box and Jamie Petrie stepped up to dispatch the spot kick to level the scores at 1-1.

New signing Matthew Lock replaced Louis McFarlane at right back in a tactical change by Bangor's management, before the home side went ahead on 32 minutes. Dylan Williams burst into the visitor's box to set-up Cameron Barry with a goal from close-range and Bangor were 2-1 ahead.

Williams then saw his own effort whizz past the post after a neat interchange with Les Davies on 37 minutes, before Llandudno responded immediately with Leon Jones saving from goalscorer Lee Stokes.

With 42 minutes played, Summers-Jones was denied by Adams from Petrie's cross and the loose ball ran to Les Davies but the Bangor number nine saw his effort blocked for a corner kick.

Bangor 1876 furthered the lead just a minute later as Cameron Barry's cut-back from the dead-ball line found centre back Cian Williams who squeezed his shot inside the far post to give the home side a 3-1 cushion.

On the stroke of half-time, Llandudno 'keeper Adams produced another save to tip over a Dylan Williams shot for a corner kick as the home sided headed into the interval with the advantage.

Immediately after the break, Dylan Summers-Jones was unlucky to see his header glance over the Llandudno crossbar and the visitors' survived another penalty appeal on 49 minutes before responding with a Ben Seager effort that cleared Leon Jones' crossbar a minute later.

Llandudno's goalkeeper Adams then fell foul of the Match Official as he was yellow carded for dissent after a defensive mix-up allowed Les Davies to intercept a through ball that was deflected behind for a corner kick.

With 56 minutes played, Bangor made a further change as Benn Lundstram was introduced with Dion Jones withdrawn in a tactical switch. The young striker then saw his curling right-footed effort fly narrowly over from Cameron Barry's well placed pass.

Bangor continued to produce the majority of the attacking play with Matthew Lock and Lundstram both going close to extending the lead.

With a quarter of an hour remaining, a Jamie Petrie pile-driver poleaxed Athletic central defender Alex Stokes who, visibly dazed, needed attention from the physio.

On 77 minutes, Bangor 1876 continued to press the visitors' goal with Les Davies' shot from 12-yards blocked for a corner kick. From the resulting flag kick Benn Lundstram had another effort blocked before Matthew Lock was again unlucky to see his header miss the target.

With the clock gradually ticking, the fourth Bangor goal duly arrived after 82 minutes as Dylan Summers-Jones side-stepped goalkeeper Adams to calmly slot home what turned out to be the final goal of the afternoon. Summers-Jones was unfortunate not to add to his tally though as a 90th minute header struck the Athletic upright.

On the club's first-ever foray in the competition, Bangor 1876 now progress to the Second Qualifying Round of the JD Welsh Cup.
