CPD Bangor 1876 FC notched up another win in their pre-season schedule against Welsh Alliance Division One side Greenfield FC

Following Tuesday's win at second-tier Gresford Athletic, CPD Bangor 1876 FC marked their first appearance on the new 3G facility at Bangor University's Treborth site with a 3-1 victory over the Flintshire visitors.

Prior to kick off, a minute's silence was impeccably observed by the 300-strong crowd in memory of the much-loved Gwyn Pierce Owen, who sadly passed away earlier this week at the age of 85.

Manager Mel Jones named an identical starting eleven to Tuesday's line-up with the exception of right back Jamie Thomas who was a late withdrawal during the pre-match warm-up.

The opening exchanges were evenly matched with both sides testing the waters. Bangor 1876 'keeper Leon Jones was first into the action as he saved from Brett Johns in the ninth minute. Three minutes later and the home side's Dion Jones tried his luck with a shot that flew wide following a corner kick delivery.

Greenfield threatened once more after 20 minutes play which was blocked at the expense of a corner. Bangor 1876's Dylan Summer-Jones then headed just wide of the upright from a Jamie Petrie delivery on 23 minutes.

With half-an-hour gone, Bangor 1876 midfielder Luke Steele sent a shot across the face of the goal without forcing a save before proceedings livened up with efforts from each side ruled out by the offside flag. Greenfield produced the first disallowed goal after 35 minutes before the home side reciprocated a minute later with Jamie Petrie sliding the ball past visiting guardian Lewis Hall.

Five minutes before the break, Greenfield saw a dangerous free kick delivery from the left cleared unceremoniously by Bangor's Les Davies at the far post. The imposing Davies then fed youngster Dylan Summer-Jones with a delicate flick which saw the striker beat 'keeper Hall but the ball flew inches-wide of the far post.

The half drew to a close with Summers-Jones again presented with an opportunity that the Gaerwen-based talent struck over the Greenfield crossbar.

Half-Time: CPD Bangor 1876 FC 0-0 Greenfield FC

The home side started the second period the brightest with left-back Shaun Lock trying his luck from the edge of the penalty area after 47 minutes. Lock was again the initiator a couple of minutes later as he sent a cross into the area onto which substitute Dylan Williams could only get the slightest of touches and the covering defender nullified the threat.

The deadlock was finally broken after 54 minutes when Jamie Petrie latched onto a through ball, beating the oncoming 'keeper Hall and forced wide, but slotting into an empty net from the narrowest of angles.

On the hour, Shaun Lock and Les Davies combined well on the left flank before Lock sent a dangerous cross over which was hurriedly cleared behind for a corner kick. With 63 minutes played, the busy Lock was then forced out of action with a pulled groin and substituted.

Greenfield continued to press and pose a threat going forward, causing several anxious moments in the home defence. The flow of the game was disrupted to an extent with the home side making a series of substitutions as the half wore on.

Les Davies almost doubled the lead in the 71st minute as he raced clear of the Greenfield defence but, forced wide of the goal, the talismanic striker saw a goalbound effort blocked at the expense of a corner kick. The second goal duly arrived a minute later as Benn Lundstram connected well to send a right-footed volley into the far corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.

As the match entered the last ten minutes, Greenfield pulled a goal back when a run down the right hand side saw a deft finish turned in by Sam Jones to reduce the arrears to 2-1. The goal unsettled the home side for a few minutes as the visitors sensed the possibility of an equaliser.

However, the home side overcame the hurdle and were awarded a last-minute penalty when Dylan Summers-Jones was up-ended inside the penalty area as he raced through on goal. With virtually the last kick of the game, the young substitute trailist sent his spot kick low into the bottom right hand corner to wrap up the proceeds.
