Bangor 1876 registered their first ever win with an impressive performance against Welsh National League Premier Division outfit Holywell Town

A debut goal from new signing Dion Jones and a second half double from the evergreen Jamie Petrie proves too much for visitors Holywell Town.

With over 300 fans in attendance at an overcast Treborth for Bangor 1876's first home fixture, it was the Flintshire outfit that started brightest with a couple of speculative off target efforts from distance in the opening five minutes.

However, the home side soon settled and Jamie Petrie was unlucky to see his strike miss the target after 12 minutes of play.

Six minutes later and the opening goal duly arrived. Petrie sent a corner over from the right, and despite Dylan Summers-Jones seeing his volley blocked, former Chester FC Youth captain Dion Jones was on hand to slot home at the far post for a 1-0 lead.

With 25 minutes gone, Dylan Summers-Jones found himself in plenty of space but the covering defender forced the Gaerwen youngster wide of the target. Summers-Jones sent his strike across the face of goal but, agonisingly, the incoming Benn Lundstram couldn't quite get enough contact to turn the ball into the net.

The Wellmen responded immediately but saw a header glance across the face of the 1876 goal. Lundstram was again in the centre of the action after 34 minutes when he found himself in space from a through ball but the Penmaenmawr talent fired just wide of goalkeeper Mike Platt's goal.

Five minutes before the interval, Bangor were forced into an early substitution when former Llandudno and Caernarfon Town manager Iwan Williams left the action with a muscular strain. On the stroke of half time, Holywell again threatened the Bangor goal when a set-piece was headed clear at the expense of a corner.

Management duo Mel Jones and Dylan Williams made one change at the interval with youngster Cameron Barry replacing Dion Jones in midfield.

Two minutes after the restart, the home side doubled the advantage. Left back Shaun Lock sent a trademark long throw into the box from the right hand side, the inimitable Les Davies flicked a header to the far post where Jamie Petrie finished emphatically to make the score 2-0 to Bangor 1876.

Summers-Jones curled a right footed effort from the left hand corner of the penalty area just over the Holywell goal some five minutes later. Bangor 1876 then extended their lead after 55 minutes when a long diagonal ball from the left set Jamie Petrie one-on-one with Holywell guardian Platt. The visiting keeper missed his clearance to present the effervescent Petrie with the easiest of finishes to walk the ball in for a 3-0 lead.

The home side then made a double substitution on the hour mark with Summers-Jones and centre back Cian Williams making way for two trialists.

Holywell gradually worked their way back into the match after the changes with Bangor 1876's substitute goalkeeper forced into a smart save on 70 minutes. The resulting corner kick was headed just over by Holywell's towering centre back.

The Wellmen's consolation goal duly arrived on 78 minutes as defender Jacob Wise rose highest to head home from another corner kick delivery.

With five minutes remaining, Holywell goalkeeper Platt produced a spectacular save from Benn Lundstram's curling free kick delivery after Cameron Barry had been brought down on the edge of the area.

In the final minute, Holywell again forced the substitute home 'keeper into a fine save low to the near post. The resulting corner click was cleared off the Bangor goaline moments before the match official brought proceedings to a close for an historic debut win in front of the home fans.
