We talk to Jonny Batten ahead of Sunday's league opener

Ahead of Sunday's league opener away against NFA , first team manager Jonny Batten reflects on a successful pre-season.

“ It's been a really hard working pre-season and the squad have given their all to be fair. Aron, Lois and myself are all pleased with the individual and collective development, progression, mentality and work ethic . We're definately happy with the direction the squad are moving in and it makes for a promising season ahead we hope.

We've had some really competitive matches against good teams irrespective of the result which has been beneficial in highlighting strengths but also weaknesses, things we've been able to work on or put right in subsequent training sessions . It has been a great learning experience for all of us and it I believe it puts us in a better place for the season. We need to continue to work hard, probably harder to be fair and take each game as it comes, nothing's been won or lost yet so its up to the team to realise that potential on the pitch and not reflect on what could have been with a sense of regret at the end of the season.

Yes, we've made some fantastic signings which have really bolstered the squad. This will allow us to become a more versatile team and give us a lot more options of how we wish to play. Certain individuals have gone above and beyond which shows on the pitch and has given myself, Aron and Lois some serious headaches when it come to team selection. This is a great problem to have and we're not complaining it just highlights the amount of talent we have in this squad. Having said that we 're looking to bring in a few more new faces if we can or if players become available. It's important that we have strength and depth with players wanting that starting place.

The squad has come together well and have made all new signings feel really welcome, this is great to see and there is definitely a feel of unity and pride when the team come together. I'm really happy with the decision of making Dani captain and she is really showing her worth on and off the pitch with Heledd being a great support in her role as vice. Aron and Lois have been first class, working really hard on and off the pitch and this is definitely showing in the training sessions and the growth of the team so a special thank you goes out to all of them.

I am very happy and excited with this group of players, if they carry on progressing as they are and working as hard as they have done through pre-season into the season then we are in for a great year.....fingers crossed of course. ”
