Players and coaches express support for NHS charity

As we've mentioned previously, the Coronavirus situation is having a big impact on many people locally, nationally and internationally. This is why we're working with the North Wales NHS charity Awyr Las to support the fight against COVID-19.

We would like to appeal to all our fans to express their support for the frontline COVID-19 response teams. You can donate £5 to support the COVID-19 Response Fund for North Wales by texting AWYR LAS C19 to 70500 . The funds raised will help ensure that the doctors, nurses, support staff and volunteers that together form the frontline COVID-19 Response Team can provide the very best care possible at this challenging time.

Our team captain, Michael Johnston, has talked of the importance of supporting NHS staff in the fight against COVID-19:
“The team really wanted to do something useful to help our local community. Some people have registered to become Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) COVID-19 volunteers, which is fantastic. We’re asking our supporters and team that can’t volunteer to send a message of support for those on the frontline to facebook.com/awyrlascharity so their messages can be shared by the Awyr Las Support Team for all frontline staff and volunteers to see.”

Mel Jones, our manager, has said:
“We’re also encouraging people to donate £5 via by texting AWYR LAS C19 to 70500 if they can. Some people are sending photos, some are making videos. We want to be involved and help be the ‘blue sky’ that ‘brightens NHS staff and patients’ days’.

Within the last 24 hours, our first team players have made a generous commitment to helping the fundraising efforts of Awyr Las be donating this season's team fines to the local NHS charity. Our captain Michael Johnston has explained that these player fines stem from things like players missing training without good reason or not turning up in full team kit on matchdays. Fines can also be accrued as a result of sporting a dodgy haircut or having been adjudged to have engaged in cringeworthy social media activity.

Johnston explained that 'the money has been collected all season and was initially going towards a team night out'. He mentioned that team mate Jamie Petrie suggested that the fine kitty should be donated to the NHS, and that this was rapidly agreed upon by all players. Our captain said that 'NHS staff are on the frontline and are helping to keep us and our families safe at the same time as putting their families and themselves at risk'. He added that 'the NHS deserves the money from the fines kitty a lot more than we do'.

You too can help brighten BCUHB staff and patients’ days with your own messages of support. You can send your message to the Facebook inbox of Awyr Las (at www.facebook.com/awyrlascharity) and the Awyr Las Support Team will share them on Facebook and elsewhere so the BCUHB’s frontline COVID-19 Response Team know you are thinking of them.

Please encourage your friends, family and colleagues to donate via text to show their support or register as a BCUHB Covid-19 Response Volunteer.
