FAW Trophy game next up for 1876

On Saturday (17 July), we face our first away trip of the season as we travel to take on Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs in a match that kicks off at 2pm. Blaenau are in tier 3 and their league season doesn't start until 31 July. Saturday's match will however be their second cup game of the season as they took on Meliden last weekend in the Welsh Cup, losing 3-0.

Although this will be the first competitive match between the sides, we nevertheless played Blaenau in a friendly match at Treborth behind closed doors during the first half of the 2020-21 season.

A further link between our two clubs is provided by Dion Rhys Williams. During our debut season, Dion played for us in several of our early season matches - including our first ever match away to FC United - before moving to Blaenau. We interviewed him back in June 2020 (click here to read the interview). Dion has since joined Bethesda.

Following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions announced by the Welsh Government on 14 July, the FAW has now annoucned that fewer restrictions will apply to football matches. In particular, it has stated that:

"previous requirements of temperature testing, spectator code of conduct, legal social distancing, maximum capacities and mandatory face masks are all removed from the Return to Spectator Regulations"

The FAW's 16 July update on the easing of Covid-19 restrictions relevant to football matches is available on their website: https://www.faw.cymru/en/news/update-return-spectating/.

Blaenau's ground is Cae Clyd, and the address is listed as follows: Cae Clyd, Manod, Blaenau Ffestiniog, LL41 4BA.
