Over the Easter period, a double-figure number of our players, coaches and fans will be taking part in a sponsored fitness challenge called Mia's Memory Miles in order to raise money for the Lily Foundation.

The event has been organised by 1876 fan Paul Templer, who has raised thousands of pounds for the charity which fights against mitochondrial disease. He is encouraging people to get active between Good Friday (2 April) and Sunday 11 April.

Paul has said "we organised this challenge after the success of last year's event and we know that exercise during lockdown is a good thing for people". He is also keen to raise awareness as well as funds for the Lily Foundation:

"Of course we organise these to help raise money for the charity in these challenging times but it's so important to continue raising awareness about Mitochondrial Disease & The Lily Foundation with the work that they do."

There are countless different ways to take part, and these can include things like walking, running and cycling. Participants can decide how many miles they want to clock up and more detailed information is available on the fundraiser's event page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/3998054593558888/. Donations can be made via the following page on Just Giving: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/paul-templer6.

One person who has set himself a particularly demanding challenge is 1876 midfielder Luke Steele who will be running over 76km during a two-day period. After having run a marathon back in November, he has decided to do a 4x4x48 challenge that involves running four miles every four hours for 48 hours. Despite the gruelling objective he's set himself, Steele is relishing the challenge:

"It's going to be a tough one but after learning last year about what all the proceeds contribute to, I know that it's a more than worth cause. Hopefully we can all get behind this challenge as much as possible and help raise money and awareness."

Bangor 1876 board secretary Matt Johnson plans to walk 70km between 2-11 April as part of the challenge. He has said that "like last year, it'll be a good way to see the countryside, keep fit and raise money for a good cause".

First team manager Dylan Williams is one of several members of our coaching staff who will also be joining in and has encouraged others to do likewise:

"It's an honour and a privilege to again take part in this very important charity event. It's something that's very close to the club, and will be well supported by players, fans and coaches. We are well aware of the charity and the importance of the event, so we're looking forward to doing our bit to raise money and awareness."
