Liam Morris selected for Cymru North Regions Cup Squad

When Liam Morris joined 1876 for the 2022-23 season, we were aware that he had previously been a member of Ynys Môn’s victorious Island Games squad three years ago, scoring some vital goals during the campaign.

More senior representative honours came his way in May 2022 when he was chosen to be a member of the team representing the Cymru North leagues, containing players from the second-tier Cymru North league and below, which overcame a Cymru South side 4-2 at Briton Ferry FC after drawing 0-0 at Denbigh Town's Central Park in the first leg. Liam was one of the goal scorers for the victors.

The UEFA Regions Cup is a competition for players who have never featured at a professional level. As such the team chosen to represent the Cymru North was unable to contain any players who have previously been under contract at a club.
The North squad, now representing Wales, and managed by former Corwen FC boss Guy Handscombe, now heads to Northern Ireland in October to take on the hosts, as well as Sweden and the Czech Republic.

Before then, it will face a preparatory match against the Republic of Ireland, and it was with great pleasure that, earlier this week, the Club received a message from the FAW which announced that “....L. Morris has been selected as part of the ‘Cymru North Regions Cup Squad’ for the upcoming friendly match against Ireland at Cork on 6 August 2022...”
This is the first senior representative honour for a player whilst playing for 1876 and the Club’s Chair, Glynne Roberts commented “ This is a great honour and reflects our ambition of bringing quality players to Bangor 1876.”

Everyone at the Club wishes Liam well, hoping that he has a good match which will place him in contention for the matches in Northern Ireland between October 10-16.
Llongyfarchiadau Liam.
