Dafydd Hughes on our plans for next season

The FAW has issued a statement which effectively brings our season to an end but, if the Government’s restrictions allow, we will be able to request that we be allowed to play friendly matches up to 31 May 2021.

This is the extract from the statement which is relevant to us:

“The National League Board (the NLB), the National Cup Board (the NCB) and the Community Game Board (the CGB) have provided an update on the status of competitions and relevant fees due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The decisions by the relevant Boards have taken into account the current Welsh Government guidelines and measures in relation COVID-19 with the health and safety of everyone involved being of the utmost importance…..

…The CGB has decided that the following competitions should be cancelled for the 2020/21 season:

All leagues and Cups at Men’s Tier 4 and below….

…The NCB has determined that an attempt will be made to complete the following cup competitions when the country either returns to Alert Level 3 in accordance with the Welsh Government Covid-19 Control Plan or when the ‘Elite Status’ as defined by Sport Wales is redesignated to that competition, whichever is the sooner:

JD Welsh Cup
To be played amongst the 44 teams at Tiers 1 & 2 only….

….The FAW fully understands the frustrations felt by many throughout the country of not being able to play, volunteer and support their clubs. However, these are unprecedented times and the FAW is not responsible for the national COVID-19 policies and guidelines, which are in place to keep the nation as safe as possible.
The FAW is exploring a number of options for the 2021/22 season to ensure that competitive football can resume as quickly as possible…”

The FAW are hoping that Tiers 1 and 2 will be given “elite” status, with Tier 3 losing out and the season cancelled. Tier 1 will play between 5 March and 31 May with the second tier playing between 20 March and 29 May.

On a positive note, the Club Board had anticipated that this scenario would play out and are already planning for next season.

The FAW has confirmed that the Treborth’s Tier 3 ground status will carry over to next season and, as one would expect, the various affiliation and entry fees paid for 2020-21 will be carried over to next season. We are also exploring how we can take advantage of grant schemes which are open to us so that we can further upgrade Treborth.

Unlike the senior leagues, junior leagues will be permitted to resume at Alert Level 3 if Welsh Government Regulations permit and we hope that our juniors enjoy some game-time and we will keep you informed of their progress.
