1876 face Tigers at Treborth on Wed. 22 Sept. 7.30pm

When we faced Menai Bridge Tigers at Treborth on 10 July, Chris Jones scored for goals in an 8-2 Welsh Cup victory. He’s looking forward to facing the same opposition in the league this Wednesday in what is now UK football’s most local of local derbies.

As well as being one of his personal highlights of the season, Jones sees the game as one our team’s highlights of the season so far:

“We’ve got goalscorers all through the team really and the goals from me are just a bonus really. It was a good game and one of our best performances. Menai Bridge were pretty strong at the start of the game and matched us and they’re not an easy team to play against”

Since returning to Bangor, Chris Jones has enjoyed playing alongside some familiar faces from his previous clubs and also a crop of talented youngsters. When asked about being re-united with the likes of Les Davies, Michael Johnston, Jamie Petrie and Joe Culshaw, he said that “everyone’s got a little bit older and a little bit slower” but added that “other than that nothing’s changed and they’re still winners”.

Jones was also full of praise for the set-up on and off the pitch at 1876, saying that “everything is very professionally run by the coaches and behind the scenes, everything is done the right way”. He is clearly enjoying his football and relishing the “new challenge” that came with joining this summer. He is keen to continue his good run of form in front of our passionate support at home and away:

“Having previously played in Bangor, I wanted to give something back to the fans who followed me and supported me over the years. Being able to play football again with the old lads and helping the club to progress was important, I want to be successful and win things with this club.”

Our game against Menai Bridge at Treborth on Wednesday 22 September kicks off at 7.30pm. With a big crowd expected, please try to arrive early. Goals and excitement have been a major feature of our recent derbies against the Tigers, so let’s hope for more of the same on Wednesday.
