"We have much to celebrate as a club"

In what has been a largely frustrating, stop-start season to date, we have much to celebrate as a club.

We remain very clearly in the hunt for promotion, and have the likelihood of a couple of entertaining cup runs to look forward to. Our management team, players and broader support team have again been immense, and I’d like to thank them all for their commitment and drive to push us forwards on the pitch.

Our support remains strong, and both home and away watching Bangor 1876 is a hugely enjoyable experience. The fans are the lifeblood of the club, and it was a moving occasion recently to pay tribute to Vera Owen. Naming the stand at Treborth in her honour is a fitting tribute to someone often referred to as “1876’s best signing”.

We also saw the fans’ generosity and community spirit in the recent food bank collection, with our opponents that day, Llanfairfechan, also playing their part in the donations. It would be good to grow our community base, and to demonstrate our commitment to the local community even more over the coming years.

We are also fortunate to have our youth set-up, and to have our sister club – CPD Merched Bangor 1876 Womens FC - so closely associated with us. Over the coming seasons, we hope to see an expansion in these sections, so that we again reach out to the wider Bangor community.

But we cannot ignore the constant backdrop of Covid and the need to remain vigilant. It is frustrating to see football come to a standstill again, but we need to see the bigger picture around keeping the public safe. I hope everyone does manage to keep themselves safe over the festive period, and that we can get back together again very soon to cheer on the players on the pitch.
