Goalkeeper and defender sign

With a new year a few days old we are now able to announce two new signings as we welcome goalkeeper Carl Jones and defender Caio Hywel to Bangor 1876.

Carl Jones was a key member of Bodedern’s league-winning side last season and twice played against us in tier 4. Carl has also previously played for Holyhead Hotspur and our manager Michael Johnston has expressed his pleasure at the signing:

“Carl is an excellent keeper and someone I’ve shared a dressing room with before. It was a huge shame what happened to Boded and no-one likes to see that. He was sought after by a lot of clubs and even though he knows that there is going to be stiff competition between him and Huw Shaw, he was keen to join us. This means the goalkeeping position is now very strong and this will be a massive benefit to us going forward.”

Also joining is defender Caio Hywel, who will be familiar to many in the area as a player who came through the youth system at Bangor City alongside several other members of current squad, such as Gethin Thomas and Harry Galeotti. The 26 year old has played in both of the top two tiers of Welsh football, and was most recently with Holyhead Hotspur. He has also played for Llanberis.

Michael Johnston also sees Caio as a key addition to our squad:

“He is a leader and an excellent defender who can play anywhere across the back four. He is another local lad who has jumped at the chance of playing for 1876. Caio is a player we tried to recruit earlier in the season but were unable to add to our squad at that time due to transfer regulations concerning registration periods. He’s had a while out due to his studies but is fully committed to the cause and ready to go when called upon.”
